No Costumes for Lodi’s Ferrets in 2012

Does anyone remember the ferret carnevale from my January 28th blog? http://lovelifeandferrari.blogspot.com/2012/01/dromedaries-cyclists-and-ferrets.html The annual event, which sees Lodi’s ferret fanciers gather and display their pets in various hand-made outfits, has apparently been cancelled! I discovered the sad news today when I ran into the little boy that I was talking about in that particular blog and his mother in town. It was a little bit embarrassing at first and I could barely bring myself to ask about the ferret carnevale, surely she would think that I was insane and have no idea what I was talking about (especially since my Italian is awful at the best of times). Much to my surprise, she not only knew about the event, she was actually the president of Lodi’s ferret association and organiser of the ferret carnevale for the past few years! What are the chances? Sadly, this year she was not on the organising committee and as a result, the ferret carnevale has been cancelled! She said that she was really disappointed because many people in Lodi look forward to it every year. Apparently she even has six ferrets herself! For me, this is the second disappointment in less than a week…first the cancellation of the Ferrari launch and now this! (For those of you who can’t detect it, yes I am being a bit sarcastic.) Still, I would be lying if I said that I wasn’t actually looking forward to making a ferret outfit…maybe I should start a Facebook petition to bring the ferret carnevale back to Lodi! Events like that are definitely worth fighting for.
